The Mascara Ibérica (Iberian Mask) Festival took place in Lisbon between May 20 and May 23 rd of 2010 in Lisbon.
This project, in it’s fifth edition, is organized by Progestur, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote Portugal’s cultural identity with what is original and genuine.
The main attraction in the festival is the mask parade, which marches down Lisbon’s downtown, known as Rossio.
These traditional masks are a common denominator in the cultural heritage between Portugal and Spain, therefore promoting a cultural exchange and highlighting different regions and people in an effort to preserve their traditions.
I made a video on the Iberian Mask parade so that you can see it for yourself, and who knows, be able to make it on next year’s edition.
